Off The Table, Onto The Sidelines

Lakers coach, Don Nelson is off the operating table for a prostate cancer operation on January fourth and plans to return to the sidelines of his team.  His first post operation game will be Tuesday February 20 when the Mavericks play at home against the Lakers.  "Time for me to take hold of this team and coach them into the playoffs" Nelson said on Sunday and with a solid 33-20 record, perhaps he will.

The NBA Draft 2001 will be held in New York City, New York at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden, on Wednesday, June 27.  "The fans in New York have always been very enthusiastic about the draft.  This promises to be an entertaining and festive night and we are delighted to have it in New York this year." Ratliff Goes Under The Knife

On February 13, Theo Ratliff, who players for the Philadelphia 76'ers was placed on the injury list, after a diagnosis of a stress fracture in his right wrist was placed on him five days earlier.  Averaging 12.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and a league leading 3.74 blocks per game, Theo Ratliff played in 50 games this season and may have to sit the rest out to not only recover from surgery but get his game back.

Cleaves Grievance

Mateen Cleaves, Rokiee Point Guard for the Detroit Pistons brother was shot and killed as the victim of a drive-by shooting.  While sitting on the porch with a friend, Herbert Cleaves was shot in the abdomen.  Jaroy L. Davis, a 19 year old Detroiter surrendered to police shortly after this crime, and faces life up to prison with no parole.  This really hit home for us as Detroiters and Mateen Cleaves, who returned to practice despite his grievance for his brother.
